Baitcaster Problem

Recommended Posts

My shimano chronarch 51mg catches on something in the reel or something . It's annoying cause I can't fish cause it feels like the reel has one "rock" in the reel and it keeps going over it. Anyone have any idea of wat it is? I have tooken the reel apart and re oiled it and re greased it. And it only does it when I put the spool into the reel.

Send it in. If they'll replace it then it isnt your problem.

I would send it in.. :Victory:

From my experiences I would suggest looking at the centrifical brake block pins.

In some Shimano' with the metal pins that the blocks slide on will come lose and try to move when the spool is turning.

The way to check is looking at the brake race you will see a thin groove from the pin.

Send it in...

A bent spool shaft can cause a thump as you reel but that would be noticed in casting as well.

It might be the worm gear. I had the same problem with it running over something so I sent it in. I think you can also purchase a new worm gear and replace it or something.

Even with the most detailed description of symptoms it is all conjecture and nearly impossible to diagnose without seeing the reel. If you decide to send it in, be sure to reference your BassResource.com screen name for a members discount of 10% (excluding OEM parts).

I think it is this piece:

The anti-reverse ratchet. If you possibly reinstalled this piece the wrong way, it will cause your reel to randomly lock up with what I believe is called the "clutch pawl". This will also answer the button sticking problem you have mentioned in another thread. If this is the case, the clutch springs are likely broken and bent out of shape.

Open up the reel and leave the drag stack on and turn the drive shaft and see what happens.

How often does the reel catch on it? Once every 1/6 revolution? Once every single revolution of the handle? Once every 2ish revolutions?

If it is once every 1/6 turn, it will probably be part of the yoke, clutch cam, or pinion gear. If it is once every turn, we can pretty much confirm that it is something in the drag stack. If it is every 2 or so, it is most likely the level wind assembly. If it is just randomly happening, then it could be a shot bearing locking up, or maybe the anti-reverse bearing is shot.

It is worth a try to fix. It could be a simple fix, so I wouldn't send it in yet.

It very well could be, but that doesn't answer why he isn't having the problems with spool out.
