So which do you prefer? The Tatula or Lexa? I still would think the Lexa is more comfortable to palm... I'm trying to get rid of my Pro Qualifier for most likely a Lexa

PQ will cast much better than the lexa IMO. The standard magforce (lexa has this) feels very restricted on casting. The magforce z (tatula has this) is much better for casting. You don't have to cast nearly as hard to get the same distance. The PQ has dual braking which IMO doesn't come close to mag z in casting performance, but it is better than magforce standard.

 

If you don't know the difference between magforce and magforce z, you may want to watch this video. The difference IMO is very substantial.

For the price, there are a number of better reels available over the Lexa. Price is my only concern about Daiwa reels in general when buying new. I was glad to see them come out with an offering at the Lexa price point, but it's not quite on par with others at the same price.

What have you seen with the Lexa that you don't like?

One thing that I don't like at all about the lexa is that under the CC knob, there isn't even a bushing, just a plastic cylinder. Also, casting is not on par with most other $130 reels out there.

You can buy that bearing for about $3 and add it. Honestly the improvement is slight. It's a 3x8x4 if you'd wanna add one to it.

I went fishing today and a buddy has a tatula combo. I was able to use it for a bit. It's a really nice setup. Balance point is about where the hook keeper is on a 7' mh with regular tatula reel. He had a bomber flat a on it. I don't know what they weigh but I was able to toss it pretty good. The reel is kinda big but it didn't find it uncomfortable to palm at all and I have smaller hands. Honestly couldn't tell a difference between it and my zillion. I only managed to snag a few trees so I can't speak on what it feels like with a fish on it. It is however a very smooth feeling reel. Mine will be here Wednesday and I already have 4 bearings coming to do the worm gear and knobs.

These aren't terrible reels but are over priced IMO

Another thing that bothers me is that the diameter of that cheapy plastic bushing (which isn't even a bushing, just a plastic cylinder) is bigger than the spool shaft. If I take off the CC knob, the spin the spool via turning the handle or just spinning it with fingers, I can see the spool wiggle around at the end.

Same thing when you put a bearing in there too. I can spin the spool and the bearing doesn't move. Since there's a sideplate bearing and one on the spool shaft I'm not sure it'd even help much if it did make good contact with the bearing.

If it is a question of price definitely talk to Ron from Valley Sports! He has them on his website for only 106$ and a 25$ rebate on top of that! For that much I would just buy the Lexa anyway and if you don't like it that much you didn't lose a ton on it!

I got my lexa for $65-70, and I would rather have put that money towards a tatula.

Really?  You consider it big?  Were you bass fishing 10 yrs ago when the Almighty was considered to be a Curado or Citica 200 D?  THAT was big, Tatula isn't a big reel (IMO), in fact feels small to me.  Big is like 300 or 400 sizes, Musky and Saltwater guys use big, bass guys not so much.  

 

I think they should start making 25 size bass reels and charging 300% more for them.  Super light weight (like 3 oz tops) , with tiny capacity spools (maybe like 40 yds of 10lb) and every acronym available under the sun plus 150mm custom carbon fiber handles. Microscope needed to work on them would be extra though.   I'm sure somebody could find a use for them AFTER upgrades.

With the norm of today being low profile baitcasters it is kinda big in comparison. Side by side with my Steez it's big. I was fishing 10yrs ago but it was with spinning gear so I have no experience with the older reels. Like I said it wasn't uncomfortable but it's a larger framed reel then most on the bass fishing market today.

I was just making a little humor man.  We've definitely come far.

Received my type R today. Already tore it down and put bearings on the worm gear. Plus a good clean and lube. Can't wait to fish it.
