Is it worth getting a Tatula over the Lexa? I have a Tatula and love it, but am really looking into a Lexa. The Lexa is just smaller and easier to palm, but also for some reason a little heavier (which I don't really care about). 

Well, I've got a Lexa 100 and love the size. The one reason I didn't look at a Tatula early on was the picture comparison I saw over at TT forums. The Tatula was huge by comparison. However, i still want to get my hands on one at BPS to more accurately tell the difference. Photo perspective doesn't always prove true-to-life.

The biggest difference I feel between the two is the break. They are both mag breaks, but of different one. With Lexa, I feel the break is always on and does not increase the break as much at the top speed. It's kind of static. Tatula's break appears to be more dynamic.

 

If I'm looking for something I want to cast far, I go with Tatula. If I don't care that, say like froggin, and want to save some $$$ at the same time, then Lexa. But for me, if I need one more reel, I'll just go with Tatula and go fishing.

I wouldn't call it dramatic. But I have big hands, so you might feel different. Looking at the reel from the top, left corner where it hits my palm is more square with Tatula. And the front size is wider with Tatula, but that doesn't mean much for palming.

I don't see why you would choose the Lexa over the Tatula. Tatula has the new innovation from Diawa like the TWS and air rotation. Tatula tested at 16 lbs max drag vs 6.8 on the Lexa. I had the Lexa and didn't find it anything interesting. A good reel but not a great reel. Haven't tried the Tatula yet but reviews and specs seems to favor the Tatula. The one thing I will say I like about the Lexa is I do love how it palms in my hand.

I measured, and the lexa and tatula are basically identical in length from tip of thumbar to tip of the top of frame. The width of the tatula is slightly more in the back part, and towards the front the tatula is a bit more wider than the lexa. If you pair the tatula with a rod with a slim grip part or area around reel seat, you won't even notice the side.

 

Nice comparison. Different perspective than I saw elsewhere that made the Tatula look ginormous next to the Lexa.

The tat is a really solid reel for the money and I think it will be pushing the Lexa out of the market

So which do you prefer? The Tatula or Lexa? I still would think the Lexa is more comfortable to palm... I'm trying to get rid of my Pro Qualifier for most likely a Lexa

I'd get the tatula out of the two since they both can be found around the same price. The tatula has magforce z which is a better breaking system then the lexa's standard magforce breaking system which is still a good breaking system but its better at heavier lures. On top of having the better breaking system the tatula has the t-wing system which is a great thing to have, daiwa doesn't hype the t-wing it really does help with casting.

 

The only thing I see the lexa 100 having over the tatula is a more luxurious look since the drag star and button you press to cast is made out of metal vs those being plastic on the tatula.

That's one of the main reasons I'm liking the Lexa. I find the Tatula just a little awkward to palm.

I have large hands and was skeptical based on a lot of the comments made about the tatulas size. It is not this large reel people make it out to be. its just a bit wider up top but it is very easy to palm. It is very, very smooth and casts with ease and both short and long distances.

I haven't had a chance to actually fish the tatula on the water yet. only chuck and wind it in a huge area. the tatula from what I've read feels very effortless when a fish is on while retrieving which is where it can really shine. Side by side w/o experiencing that yet, the chronarch and tatula are the same in terms of smoothness. the TWS is so effortless to cast. it is really great.  I can really see myself using just tatulas for anything that involves chucking and winding. for pitching or anything bottom contact, i'm still partial to the 50 size shimanos.

The tatula is the easy pick and it isn't even close.

There's really no comparison between the two IMO. The Lexa should be compared to the excelsior when thinking of taking that $20-30 jump or not. The Tatula has much more to offer and more innovations.

I think your original question was 'was it worth it'. That implied the you already had acknowledge there were some differences, but not sure the difference are worth the price difference. At the end, only you can answer that. Everybody's situation, both fishing and financial, are different. I think you got the information you need to make that decision.

 

One thing I found some folks were not accurate in this thread was about the price, which I didn't want to go into, because recently the threads tend to turn into "buy from there don't buy from there" thread, but there are about $15 difference between the two on the lowest price I find on some auction site and Daiwa currently has a rebate on Lexa100 that you can download from their site. So we are actually talking a big price difference.

My issue with the tatula was that it was widest where I put my pointer finger with how I hold a reel. That and brake isn't recessed but actually juts out from the side plate right where I place my finger. I know the tatula is the rage right now and I also don't understand why the lexa was introduced only a year before the tatula when they are so close I price. However I did prefer the lexa and I know I am in the minority on that.

If the tatula is too wide for you like it is for some, get the t3 or t3 ballistic as they are on sale and have a smaller profile.

Wow, 40 posts and already telling it like it is with anti-hijacking thread facilitation! Performance wise it's a hands down win for the Tatula. If you're more concerned with how it feels in your hand, only you can answer that with your own side by side comparison.
