hey guys i live in south ontario, and i wanna go sturgeon fishing.

what kind of gear and bait do you guys recommend

any tips welcome

Going to depend a lot on where and what kind of sturgeon. I catch the shovelnose sturgeon around here on medium spinning gear with 20lb braid and cut shad. If you're going to the Columbia River or something after giant white sturgeon, that gear wouldn't lift the weight they use to anchor the large baits they use to the bottom in the fast, deep current.

St. Marys River @ the mouth of Lake Huron has always been a good sturgeon area, lots of current I would not fish too light.

I'm also in southern Ontario, be careful where you fish for Sturgeon, most or all of Ontario is closed all year long as they are a threatened species.  I believe I've read they can take 50 years to mature and, they were heavily fished around here back in the day and are now few and far between.

Not trying to rain on your parade :) I don't know much about it I've never fished for them myself.  Worse case scenario, we still have plenty to fish for around here!
