hi all.

i usually fish jig heads when im fishing for panfish. whether it be with a small crappie tube or grub. other than tubes and grubs, are there any other soft baits i can throw using this same head or am i pretty limited?

i throw 1/16oz jig heads with the tubes and grubs

any ideas, tips or advice would be appreciated.

I would probably switch to a weedless head for bass, but really what you stick on a jig head is only limited by your imagination. Here's some lures I use on a weedless jighead for river Smallmouth. Wacky rigged Dinger, Shaky Tail Worm, and Grub.

That's what makes plastics so deadly; they can all be fished using any technique.

hm, never thought of that.  figured since i used a smaller head jig, that could only be used with tiny plastics such as grubs.  never thought about putting a worm on it.......hmmmmm

Try small lizards, tiny brush hogs, 3-4 craw worms; the list is endless

Panfish will just nibble the live worms right of your jig head,

especially bluegills, they are very adept at that.  I stick Berkley

wax worms, the ones in the little jars, on them and the blues have a hard time getting them off without getting stuck.  Of course, this means there isn't much weight to cast so either fish close to shore or use ultralight equipment.  Works well under a pencil bobber, too. 

Don't laugh until you tried this. Save your torn up stick worms (senkos, dingers, whatever) and tear off the last 2", preferably the tail end. Rig straight on a jighead. I kill 'em with this. I don't know why, there is no action at all, but it works. Straight retrieve, yo yo, it doesn't matter.

I use 1/16 oz for panfish and 1/8 to 1/4 oz for bigger fish. I've nailed plenty of 3 to 4 lb bass on the 1/16 oz so expect anything.
