I'm thinking about buying a few KVD 1.5 HC flat side cranks.  Do the flat sided have rattles? If they do, does SK offer a silent flat sided crankbait?  What's the best color for the KVD flat side in New England clear water?  Thanks.

Not sure what HC means but that irrelevant they work great lol. The flat side ones do not have rattles, at least the ones I have do not.  If we are talking about the same ones they dive 8-10ft. As far as colors for NE waters match the KVD to the baitfish you have in your local waters.  That's what I do here in FL and it works

I believe HC stands for Hard Crankbait just for SKU purposes as HC is applied to everything from Jerkbaits to Topwaters.

I can't answer the "HC" thing for you, I don't know either. But the 1.5 flats ARE silent. I am from WNY, and probably have similar water to you in N.E., I use clear water minnow in clear water on bright days, and neon bluegill on dark days. I don't have much time with the flats yet, they just came out last year, and I have only used them on a few outings last fall, but they impressed me enough to keep them. I plan on using them a lot in my cold water hard bait arsenal this spring along side jerkbaits, and lipless cranks.

I thought the same thing but their sexy dogs, poppers, kvd jerkbaits are hc as well. Heavy cover doesn't quite add up to me.

I'm not sure if it stands for "Hard Crankbait" but you are correct, it is used for their own cataloging purposes. The 1.5 flat is silent, and while I haven't tried them I was bummed that they didn't use the coffin lip like other flat sides have which make them great around wood and rock in the warm water period but it should still be good in cooler water.
