I use a sharpie to add some orange near the front hook on some cranks and top waters, and even some blue at the tails of some cranks, what do you do?

I add a stout split ring to the nose of my spooks; seems to give them a better side-to-side glide.

Orange Sharpies are killer for me. Add in some orange and hold on.

I'm always tinkering. Color, split rings, hooks, you name it.  I've even gone as far as changing the action of my cranks by adding weight internally and shaving the lips.  On spinnerbaits, I've shortned the arms, switched out or removed blades, replaced the skirt with a grub.... Don't get me wrong, I've ruined more than my share.  I've also hit the jackpot in my quest to show 'em something different.

what's a good way to add internal weight?

I change the hooks on almost all of mine. 

 

I don't normally do it for tinkering, but I've chipped or broken bills and filed them down so they're no longer effected by it, end up with a pretty different action sometimes.
