Curado "i"

Featured Replies

Why would this be cheaper than the chronarch ci4? Seems like same features but made of aluminum.

It is just marketing BS. In the fishing world, weaker but lighter > strong but heavy. Some people just buy reels based on the numbers that are in the statistics. That is why companies like Pinnacle and Abu go for the lightest reel possible, even though they are basically fragile compared to 7-8 oz shimano/daiwa reels, and won't last nearly as long. That is why I won't buy Pinnacle or Abu too. :laugh5:

Also, the curado may or may not have a SOLID build comparable to certain reels we may have seen shimano make in the past, which IMO is much, much better than this ci4+ material......... :eyebrows: You will see what I mean when it gets leaked..

Someone should teach shimano the alphabet in order

They can't always use certain letters because of redundancy. As some have mentioned, HG or H are their acronyms for the higher gear ratios, so they don't want to have a Curado HH. Same thing happened with the spinning reels. They use the letter F, for freshwater, so they didn't make any Stradic FF, or Symetre FF.

Aluminum is cheaper to machine than carbon composites. It also has less bearings. The CI4+ has high quality SARB, these are likely just run of the mill steel bearings in the Curado. Curado doesn't appear to have the lightweight A7075 aluminum spool either, and spools are quite expensive to machine. Spool alone is probably a $50+ upgrade.

Just talked to a Shimano Rep at a show. He didn't have one with him, but it sounded like he had used it. Told me it was going to be $180, have the braking system of the chronarch ci4, and casts better than the Chronarch E. Sounds like its going to be a really nice reel.
