New to the site... I'm from the Cap District and was curious to know if there are any smaller lakes or ponds that people recommend or what you've caught or heard reported. I usually fish for largemouth, smallmouth, pike...walleye if present. Fishing out of a Coleman crawdad so the larger bodies of water are kind of out of its league.

Oh boy ... you are in my neck of the woods.  I live just outside of Albany, NY.  Here's my short list

 

Round Lake - LMB, Pike.  Especially towards little round lake.

Saratoga Lake - LMB, SMB, Pike.  I generally catch LMB.  The creek gets less pressure than the main body during the summer.

Collins Lake - LMB, Pike.  This is a small lake but it's fed from the Mohawk don't let it's size fool you.  I saw a huge pike pulled out from shore.

 

There are others but those are my top 3 which I have fished on my canoe.  There are also a bunch of bank fishing spots which are fun to fish.

Forgot Rennselear Lake.  Primarily for LMB but they stock with trout so every once in a while one will jump on your line.

Yeah collins is very good for how small it is, my friend and I have had some good luck in there. I've been wanting to try round and rensselaer. I know rensselaer is similar to collins with its size but really havent heard much on the size of the fish. How is round with boat traffic? Appreciate the reply back btw

Welcome, Felix has some good suggestions. I put mine in the Mohawk when the flow allows. The NY DEC site lists fishing spots by county I've gotten  a few ideas from there. Good luck

Felix definetly put you onto some good places. I don't know where your at put there is so decent shore access around lock 7 and 8. Lock 7 especially since there is a nice cove you could float around. Also six mile water works around fuller rd.

I am new to kayak fishing and live in the Albany Capital District area. I am currently looking to find a local fishing kayak club. I currently own a 2018 Hobie Pro Angler 14 Kayak. 

I would appreciate any information or suggestions in finding such a club.

I don't know that there are any around here. There's the NYKBF, but they fish all over NY. Depending on what you're looking for, you should download the TourneyX and Fishing Chaos apps and see what local kayak tournaments are around here. 

 Last year I fished kayak tournaments at Sacandaga and on the Mohawk. One was a NYKBF tournament and one was a NY BASS tournament.

You're in my neck of the woods. I'm not aware of any such clubs, but I can put you on a few fun spots within a couple of hours if you are willing to travel.
