New Rod Build

Featured Replies

With sooo much time on my hands lately, I decided to attempt another rold build.  This will be a jerkbait rod @ 7ft. The blank is a IM8, the guides and reel seat are Fuji and I added blue, metalic spacers between the reel seat and butt section of the cork handle and the butt cap along with the same color winding check.

This is my third complete build and I wanted to do something different with the thread work as my previous builds were open butt wraps and only had trim bands on the guides.

There are a few minor mistakes and I still need to add a second coat of finish along with a decal on the lower section of white (not visible in pic), but all in all I'm very happy with the project as a whole.  post-7608-0-62340300-1391486507_thumb.jppost-7608-0-06812600-1391486523_thumb.jp

Nice work, you're feather inlays look great!  I wish more people would post their rod builds.

Great Job! I have been considering doing this lately since everythingelse I have had to do is done(ree/cleaning, hook sharpening/changing, box organizing, purchasing) I just really need something else to do over the next 4-6 weeks.

 Thanks

Same situation I'm in, so I already ordered a 2pc. blank and components so I can always have a rod in the car.

I am about to do my first rod build. I have been making my own buzz baits and spinner baits so now I am going to try rod building. I will post how it comes out.

I really do wish more rod builders would show their stuff.  I just got the MudHole catalog in the mail a few weeks ago and I have been contemplating doing a build of my own to pass the time over the winter.

How did you learn?  DId you take a class?
