Ag Orra S - Reviews

Featured Replies

I'm hoping that a number of people that have used this reel can tell me their thoughts on it.

Recently, I have owned an Abu Garcia 502albi and came to notice that when the reel is under load, it grinds, almost feels like a grinder (if you will).

After reading all the reviews on the Orra S, the grinding seems to be hit or miss.with users.  More people saying that they dont experience the grinding.

Has anyone ever experienced this grinding with the Orra S?

I own both ..if your making a spinning reel grind under load your lure is too big .spinning reels are made for fighting fish with your drag .reeling against resistance is not good unless you use proper size weight.

my lure that is normally ever used is anywhere from 1/4 - 3/8oz.  I highly doubt that would cause the grinding feel.  I could be wrong but I don't believe I am.

also, just to clarify, when I mentioned "under load", I meant nothing more than my lure on the line.

Just to stir the water some, I bought the Abu Garcia 502albi some time back, based on him having the same one, and mine grinded right out of the box. I promptly returned it while I could. Later when I cranked his, it grinded too, so it's not always about a lure being too heavy. Mine didn't even have line on it, all I had to do was crank the handle and it felt like it was making coffee.

By the way, Crankbait, I was at Dick's earlier tonight and I looked at the Abu Orra S again and their display had a very slight geary feeling to it. Not a grind, but almost like it had some sand in the gears. I didn't even feel it with every crank, just every now and again. The blister packed reels hanging on the pegs for sale were packaged so the handle could be turned so I tried one of those. The one I tried was smooth. Seems a hit and miss. I'd crank it before you buy it, and save the receipt for a while too. Or..........get another Pflueger. :)

And before anybody calls me on Abu and Pflueger being the same through Pure Fishing, I already know it. It was just an inside joke.

Had the same experience with a Soron. Every time I've bought a non Shimano or Daiwa reel I've been disappointed. Shame really, you would think the other manufacturers could hit the mark, but apparently not. The Soron, at it's price point was too heavy and it developed a bump in the retrieve.
