Squarebillz

Featured Replies

Is it just me or are alot of the popular squarebill cranks silent? Im wondering why this is, because just because fish are in shallow doesnt mean they wont slam a rattling crank right? I see that alot of these squarebills are not even offered in non-silent versions, as a guy just starting fishing squarebills it feels weird to throw silent hardbaits.

Also since were on the topic what are your fave squarebills? Id like to gather a bunch in the 3/8-5/8oz range

my understanding is everyone used to throw rattling, so silent became the "something different" for pressured fish. but now its seems like most are silent. I wonder when things will turn the other way.

Rick Clunn said he like to throw the opposite of what the majority is throwing.

They're silenced because it gives the bait a more subtle presentation to the fish. Sometimes you can go through an area with a rattling crank and come up empty, then cover the exact same water with a silent crank and catch fish. There are days when the opposite is true. You just have to adjust to what the fish want.

I know when I am in the back of a quiet cove the rattles from the crank is amplified and really loud. I catch fish but never tried a silent SB.

I imagine the wobble and water displacement has just as much or more influence than rattle

My thoughts exactly mprestonSEK, i just wish some lures were offered in both so it is an option.

For example the SK KVD squarebills if they offered both silent and rattling that would be nice

ah i didnt see that on the TW site anywhere

a bunch of them are BPS exclusive only. As well as color offerings I believe. I may stand corrected on the color thing.

You wizard! I was just going to post this. I think that most, not all, but most shallow square bills have a wider body with a wider wobble that they feel more.
