Kansas Lakes And Reservoirs

Featured Replies

What lakes and or reservoirs have you fished in Kansas? Which did have you had the most success on?

I have only been able to fish a few myself.

1) Bone Creek Reservoir

2) Big Hill Reservoir

3) Clinton Reservoir

Since I live closest to Bone Creek, I have had the most time and success there.  It's a really good largemouth fishery as well as crappie and catfish.

Melvern, Wolf Creek, La Cygne, are all decent lakes

Melvern is horrible, LaCygne has dinks, Milford Blue Green Algae and is closed. State Fishing Lakes blow, and certainly dont fish any of the Pits in SE Kansas.

It might be faster for me to list the lakes in Kansas I haven't fished?  :Idontknow:

Perry, Glen Elder, Wilson, Clinton, Milford, Melvern, Big Hill, Hillsdale, Tuttle Creek, Cedar Bluff, La Cygne, Pomona, Coffey County/Wolf Creek, Wyandotte, Atchison, Warnock, Brown SL, Nebo SL, Douglas SL, Leavenworth SL, Middle Creek, Miami, Pott 2, Shawnee SL, Lake Shawnee, Alma City Lake, Spring Creek, Lone Star, Wabaunsee, Edgerton City Lake, Gardner, Lake Lenexa, Kill Creek, Shawnee Mission, Louisburg City Lake, Olathe, Cedar Lake, Osawatomie City Lake, Miola, Richmond City Lake, Springhill City Lake, Banner Creek, Bourban SL, Bourban County Lake Elm Creek, Bourban County Lake Cedar Creek, Melvern River Pond, Tuttle Creek River Pond, Osage SL, Mined Wildlife Area, Bone Creek, Overbrook City Lake, Mound City Lake, Critzer, Bone Creek, Pleasanton East/West/Old, Fort Scott, Fort Scott-Rock Creek, Linn County Strip Pit, Prescott City Lake, Garnett North/South/Cedar Valley, Lebo City Lake, and New Strawn City Lake. I'm sure I'm missing a couple and there's a whole bunch of public ponds and WIFA ponds I've fished that I'm not going to list.

I've had success on all of them. It would be really hard for me to pick favorites, most all of them have stuff I like about them and several of them I like a lot. I have a couple reports in the KC area thread you can check out and see if you like anything you read about any of those lakes :)

Private Pond!

Best to Worst in my opinion

1 Coffey County - big numbers

2 McPherson State Fishing Lake - Big Bass

3 Marion County - decent numbers and size

4 Marion reservoir - just ok

5 Butler State Fishing Lake - fished it once and enjoyed it

6 Harvey County East Lake - home lake and pretty sad

There's quite a few more that I've fished a couple tea so I'm up I. The air about them.

As you can see there is to many lakes to list them all. As for which lakes are best depends on what you're looking for. Lots of the state lakes have large numbers of bass but lack quality and some have quality but bites are few. For the chance at both I would try Banner Creek which is a city owned lake by Holton, Ks. I have caught a few hawgs out of Nebo state fishing lake but its real small and a mile of gravel to get to it. I'd suggest going to kdwp website and look for electro fishing reports of any lakes close to you.

Nebo's just a little mud puddle with nothing but stunted crappie and catfish in it and it's down probably closer to 5 miles of the most rutted out, dusty dirt roads you've ever been down. I wouldn't even bother trying it, move along, nothing to see there  :snooty:

Why is that?I live just minutes from the pits in southeast Ks and have fished them my whole life.
