Looking To Get A Spinning Reel At The Bps Spring Classic. Any Suggestions?

Featured Replies

im looking to spend $100-$150 on a spinning reel for a good overall light wieght finesse rig. dropshot, shaky head, finesse jigs. what do yall recommend i get?

ive heard the PQ in the spinning reel is as solid choice as their bait casting brother.

I have a spinning PQ. It's a fine reel, but IMHO it doesn't punch as far above its weight as does the baitcasting PQ. If you get it for about $50, it's well worth it.

I would highly recommend a Shimano Stradic FJ 2500 if you can get one on sale in your price range. I've been very happy and very impressed with the two I have. The line management on the Shimano's just works, I don't think I've had a wind knot to date on either of them. I would also recommend the Stradic CI4+, I love how lightweight mine is on top of being as smooth and solid as my FJs. But it's a fair bit above your price range.

While I have no direct experience with the the Pflueger Supreme and Supreme XT are also well regarded reels in your price range.

You could also look at the Saros, same features and such as the FJ but an all graphite body and 40 bucks cheaper.

Vote for Pflueger supreme / Supreme XT.

Fantastic reels for the price, probably won't go away from these reels for awhile.

Thanks ill look into those reels even the hire priced ones. My budget can go up too $300 on a reel but i dont do alot of finesse fishing.Im a power fisherman but its a necessity to be a more complete angler and I plan to do good this summer with the technique.

Take a look at the Daiwa Lexa spinning reel too. I haven't fished mine yet but it feels really solid, has an aluminum frame.

If your budget can stretch the Stradic FJ in my opinion would be the best bang for your buck. If you become interested in Daiwas then I'd suggest you check out the Cabelas Verano spinning reel that's made by Daiwa - has all the same features as the Ballistic but cheaper. I've not used or held one but looks good on paper. But you can't get it at BPS.

Anything Shimano.

Stadic FJ is amazing!  I was very happy with lower versions of Shimano spinning reels, but once I tried the Stradic...all other reels in the lower end categories just don't cut it for me anymore. If you don't want to spend that much, a Symetre is a great reel too in the price range, plus with the BPS reel trade in you could lower the price even further.

I have this reel in a 2500 series. I used it last fall for inshore fishing with 15 pound braid. Made short work of some nice sized black sea bass.

Well, if you have up to $300, you have a LOT of options/brands.

But FWIW, and I don't have this years' flyer for the Classic yet, but in years past, Shimano has been excluded from deals during the Classic. Other brands, as well, but just FYI.

If I had $300 to spend on a spinning reel I, too, would look at Shimano and Daiwa. But for or $329 ($30 more), you've got the Sustain... whether it's worth that much more over the Stradic others can chime in.

So I'd suggest the Stradic FJ, or the Daiwa Ballistic. Pflueger has its champions. I personally haven't liked the feel when I test the reels out in-store. I prefer the feel of Shimanos and Diawas in my hands. That's not to say others are not as good, just my preference.

I also like the Lexa, but if money's not so much an object, go higher.

another pflueger fan here

1st gen Stradic ci4 could be picked up for cheap. Fj and + are awesome as well.
