Gsx Baitcast Combo

Featured Replies

I picked up this combo from Gander's First Cast sale for $80. It will be my first dedicated frog set up and my first season using bait-casters. I was wondering line selection; Braid obviously but what lb test and brand for frogging do you prefer? Thanks

I usually use anything from 30-50lb test braid. I've had good luck with Power Pro and Spiderwire. Planning on trying out some Berkley Professional Grade this year as well. I would stay away from Spiderwire stealth camo braid because the colors wear off really fast and you're left with a funky cream colored line. Also, I tried some lower lb test Kanzen braid and was very unimpressed. I don't know if their heavier stuff is any better but as bad as the light stuff stunk, I wouldn't even try it.

I like Seaguar Kanzen and Suffix 832

Had to beat 50-65 power pro I've never broken off a fish but I had some knots slip bowing up on big fish in thick cover. Did break a couple of rods though

Power Pro for me 65 lb.

50-65 lb Power Pro.  Good stuff.

I think I will be getting 50lb Power Pro; The combo is currently on back-order so not sure when I will even get to it. But I appreciate the suggestions.

Does anyone have experience with the GSX Reel for this combo?
