How To Catch Trout From Bank?

Featured Replies

Sometimes it depends on which type trout. Rainbows love powerbait. Browns love spinners and small shiners. And brook trout love worms. Just a basic starting point IMO.

Trout Magnets, and gulp minnows on jigheads. Never use anything heavier than 6lb clear mono or fluoro.

Power Bait...

Rig it Carolina on 4lbs test with a baitholder hook, like size 8, use like a 16" inch leader and a 3/16 sinker.

Just cast it out and let it sit. If you dont get a bite in like 5-10 minutes cast it out to a new spot.

This is the best way to catch em from the bank day in and day out. Vibrex spinners work great and are more fun but Power Bait is a sure thing.

Thanks, gonna give this a try. I've never fished for trout.  The Fall LMB bite's been way off for me, which I'm rationalizing as the crazy weather we've had the last 6 weeks here in New England and NOT me....

Trout tend to school up and "swim laps" in ponds/small lakes where they are stocked. Most of the time they will follow the first drop off/shelf of some sort, which is usually pretty close to the bank. Many people make the mistake of casting their powerbait rig too far out. If you find a point to cast off of that rocks because it will concentrate the fish when they have to swim around the point. Just leave your bail open and let them eat it, it is nearly impossible to not gut hook them when using this set up so don't do it if you are a C&R guy...I even tried tiny circle hooks, gut hooked roughly 2 out of every 3 trout.
