Looking To Upgrade!

Recommended Posts

Im looking to upgrade to a new rod for my baitcaster, currently I have a Shimano Caenan (awesome reel) on an academy special Think Red/See Blue Rod someone suggested it for a nice starting out rod and its been great!

So I'm just looking to upgrade now something in the 100 dollar range. Ive looked at the veritas and mojo bass but are there any others out there im over looking?

90% of the time im fishing soft plastics every now and then Ill crank or use a frog so id like a rod that can do both without having to switch setups haha

Any info would be great thanks!

I really love my Veritas for jig and soft plastic fishing, and am looking to purchase another but this time for frog fishing. I would suggest it, but make sure its guides are nice. A lot of people have said their guides are not always straight.  Also heard good things about the MOJO. I think both rods are nice, so whatever you decide, it will probably be a nice rod.

Plenty of good $100ish rods out there. My reccomendation is a carbonlite or fenwick HMG. Carbonlite being lighter and the fenwick being a rock solid, crisp, well made rod. The falcon bucoos are nice and comfortable to fish but the actions are a little peculiar compared to other "bass" rods.

Ive owned or own a big majority of the rods in that class and the Mojo was the worst in sensitivity out of all of them IMO. The 7 Med "plastics" rod is just dead in my hands, tip heavy, and has lost 2 guide inserts. Some like them, but theres better rods for half the price (daiwa airds) IMO.

I'm a Fenwick fan.  I also agree the *** is another good option as long as the small diameter handle doesn't bother you.  Stay with 2-hand casting and it won't.  :teeth:  Was only out once with my Carbonlite, and that was after the cold had settled in.  Therefore I can only suggest it based on all the good reviews from people who have used it.  I'd also check out the Fenwick Smallmouth rods if you can find somewhere that is selling them around your $100 mark.  fishusa no longer is and unfortunately I was spending my money on reels when the were.  :cry4:
