Hey guys,

I am looking for a good crankbait/spinnerbait/jerkbait rod. I have no idea what to get. I'm also looking a reel to go with it.  My budget will probably be around 150 dollars for the two items combined . I am starting tournaments and I want a good rod for these uses. Thanks for the advice.

I would go with a BPS cranking stick and a BPS pro qualifier.  6'6" or 7' for the rod and a 6:4:1 gear ratio for the reel.  $140 before shipping or taxes.  They both are on sale thru this Sunday, May 16th.

There are so many good rods at that price point my fingers cant type all of em

Find one that is comfy in your hand and go from there

Thanks for the help guys. I have looked into these rods now I just need to make a decision.  I also am looking at the St. Croix Mojo Bass rods.  Have you had any experience with them?

their spinnerbait rod is awesome. Great for spinnerbaits , t rigs and jigs. It can handle deeper crankbaits but I wouldnt use it for smaller crankbaits.  YOu could probably find a 7ftmhf glass rod that can work with crankbaits/spinnerbaits and jerkbaaits. I know my 765cb glass can do it. 

Those aren't techniques I'd try to cover with one rod. A MH/F plastics rod will handle spinner baits, A mod-fast is good for shallow cranks and ok for the jerk baits but for deep cranking I prefer a glass MH/Mod. a Med with a fast but soft tip makes jerk baits and top waters easier to control. Keeping them hooked on the fast action can be tougher and is a  trade off. 

The 6'10 mh mod fast Fenwick small mouth rod is about the only rod I have found that will handle all those techniques adequate

ok, for the 2 items combined...combo set up, I'd probably start looking at BPS combo set ups.   Or you could look at Academy's store brand H20 line.  They make a crankbait rod(IM8 composite) that is around 59.99 as well as others that are just graphite with styles in regular as well as micro(79.99) and have a few of the H20 reels that you can get right around 69.99 to 79.99.  I have 2 of their casting rods that are IM8 and 1 spinning rod as well as one of their H20 reels and haven't had any issues and have had them for over 2 yrs.

I'd go with the St. Croix Mojo. As what was said about not being able to get them to stay buttoned up with a fast action, it can be done. You have to keep your drag looser than you normally would and actually play the fish a little more. It's not considered 100% ideal but it'll work for you until you get enough to get a crankbait rod.

Not positive how this combo would handle all 3, but you can get a bps pq/carbon lite combo for right around 150 160. Maybe a 6'6 m/f? Again, I'm not sure how it would handle all of those techniques together, but it would at least be a solid combo for your budget
