Does Your Dog Go Fishing With You?

Featured Replies

Do you take your dog out on the boat with you, and what kind is he/she. My last dog an American Bulldog loved being on the boat. This will be my second season to fish with out him and it will suck again.

Here's my dummy scaring the fish away

I had a lab that fished with me. My first year without her.

I take mine with me when i shore fish so she can roam around the shore line but i leave her at home when i take my pond prowler or kayak out because she has way too much energy to be confined to a small area.

I've got a female mountain feist that's a jam up squirrel dog. I've taken her once and she is after squirrels as soon as she's out of the jeep so she stays home

Mike2148, she is a beautiful dummy. She looks a lot like my very first dog 40 yrs ago.

Oh yeah! :)

Best fishing dog I've ever seen. He loves it. Wagging furiously all day and watching the line back every cast. Very funny.

I used to. he went every where with me.

Tried it once, found out quick it was a bad idea. He jumped off the back after some ducks. Their went fishing for that day.

Wouldn't go w/o him---or can't. He swam half way across the lake last time I tried to leave him behind.

He was hoping it would shake loose.

Awesome thread!

When I get a chance to live near a lake/afford a boat first thing i'm recruiting is a fishing buddy of the canine variety.

My Bassett Hound Would go crazy when she heard me hitching the trailer up.  It got to the point where I had to put her in the truck BEFORE I did it.  She'd sit patiently until we got to the lake and would run around while I launched. Then she'd jump in the boat while I parked and would sit next to me when running from spot to spot, but when I was actually fishing, she'd curl up on the front deck and sleep.

It's been two seasons since she left us, but I keep her collar around my steering column to remind me of my most enthusiastic fishing partner.

My favorite fishing partner. He usually just lies on the rear deck. It will be interesting to see how he adapts to the new boat. He is blind!

i have a mutt that looks like a golden retriever but the size and legs of a dachshund or corgi or something like that….  when i'm loading up the kayak he knows it's time to roll…..  although i do not take him when it's really cold out.  he has a tendency to get in the water and then get me wet which is not fun when cold….

Our silky terrier goes with us if we have been camping.  He just lays under the console most of the time.

I have a boxer ( see the avatar ). He always goes fishing with me till late October.

I got a 4 month old chocolate lab puppy that I'm going to try in the boat and hope it works out. She's hopefully going to be a duck dog for me when shes old enough so im hoping she enjoys the boat this summer.

Heck yeah I have a 9 year old Australian Sheperd I bring him along every chance I get. He gets so excited when he sees me getting my fishing stuff ready.

Great thread!  I have always been afraid taking my dog would disrupt a days worth of fishing but may just have to give it a try with my new Brittany pup this summer!

50/50 depends on my mood, where, and who else will be going.  He will usually stay out of the water unless he gets too hot.

yea  sometimes i do. he cant fit in my yak buy in a few years when i get a bas boat hell be out there every time.

nice pics guys!

I have two pitbulls that have fished with me since they were pups. They are fairly lazy but really enjoy being on the water. They have been in the bass boat in the drive way many times since I got it but this will be there first year not in a jon boat so I am expecting them to love the room and comfortable seats.
