  1. Do you fish the marsh often? I have a tournament there early in the spring and no nothing about the place other than the reviews say its horrible to fish. Any insight?
  2. About a month ago I had a tournament on Mosquito Lake. My morning started of slow and my co-angler was ripping lips. I was absolutely miserable in the pouring rain. Anyway, I went to swing a small one in to the boat and it came off while swinging. Needless to say it was lesson learned, no more swinging fish. 2 weeks ago I had a 3+ on the line while fishing alone. I went for the net, the fish jumped, and out came the hook. By far my worst lost fish of the year. Luckily I had a great night and still took the win by a few ounces. That fish definitely would have helped though. Still torn on boat flipping or netting...
  3. Weeds every where! I caught all my fish in a foot of water. Frogs, senkos, and a chatterbait.
  4. 7' ML Moderate Casting for cranking 7' M Fast Casting for jerkbaits 7' M Fast Casting for topwater 7' MH Fast Casting for Spinners and Swimbaits 6'10 MH Fast Casting for texas rigs 7'1 H Fast Casting for Jigs 7'1 H Fast Casting for flipping 7'4 H Fast Casting for Frogging 7' M Fast Spinning for Finesse (shaking head, senko, fluke, etc.) x3 6'10 ML Fast Spinning for drop shot Those rods never leave the boat. I have a few others that I use depending on where I'm fishing.
  5. I'm with JigMan on this one. Check your shift cable. This happened to me last year.
  6. I have a love/hate relationship with the Senko. I love catching fish and there is no doubt that senkos catch fish. I prefer to power fish, though. I hate when I have to resort to throwing a senko because it just isn't my style! There are days when that is all I can catch them on...
  7. Search the threads. There was just another post on this a few days ago!
  8. Let's get back on topic. Any updates on Mosquito? I'm not going there to catch a bunch of fish, I'm going there to at least place in a tournament. Where are those bigger fish?
  9. Swimbaits and flukes mostly. Small white grubs were working for others.
  10. Thompson Bay, just outside of Presque Isle Bay, is a huge sand flat. A group of us went this time last year and got on the smallies. We actually got tired of catching them and chased large mouth in the back waters.
  11. What are the fish doing in Deep Creek Lake? I'm heading down to Maryland in the morning for a tournament on Saturday. This cold weather is throwing me for a loop. Can anyone help me out with some insight on the lake? For what it is worth, I've never been there before.
  12. I agree with jhoffman on this. On the second day if you get a few bites, move on! Dont burn up good water by sticking all the fish. Get a base pattern and finish figuring it out on the tournament day.
  13. I wouldn't exactly say it's on fire, but i'll agree with the big bass part!
  14. A little ice north of 7 points. The patch has broken up for the most part. I made it out for a few hours today.
  15. I just got word that the lake is high enough to use the Weaver Falls Launch.
  16. It was down 3-4 when I was there. They are still letting water out.
  17. I think there will be open water, but also some patches of ice to navigate around.
  18. That would be greatly appreciated!
  19. The only launch without ice is Weaver Falls. However, with the lake being drawn down it is not accessible (to shallow). These photos are from 3/16.
  20. I also have a tournament there at the end of May. Hopefully I can get there sooner to figure the lake out a little! I'll definitely be following this post.
  21. I ran in to the issue of culling within an ounce a few times last year. I once tied and questioned a cull afterwords. I'm a fan of knowing the weights though. It gaves me a better idea of what I have in the well (peace of mind).
  22. I ran a search on here and could not find much talk about culling beams. My question is do you folks prefer a scale, a culling beam, or both? I have typically used a scale in the past and am considering getting a culling beam. Pros and Cons would be great!
  23. My buddy and I won a 3 fish team tournament with just over 4 pounds last year. There were about 30 boats. Never would have guessed that would have won...
  24. When I go as a rider, not nearly as often as i'd like (it tends to be more joyful when all you have to worry about is fishing) I carry a Plano bag with 4 3700 boxes. 1 box has ribbon tails, senkos, and finesse worms. Another box has crankbaits, jerkbaits, and top water baits. The 3rd box carries my spinners and jigs. The 4th is reserved for creature baits. A 3500 box filled with terminal tackle goes in the front pocket with my tools. The trick is to limit yourself to only the gear you will need or are most likely to use.

Everything is worth more in its original condition. I guess its nots so much cleaning it, but altering it. Blowing the dust of wont be as bad, but once you start polishing (which removes the original finish) and changing things is when the value will go down. I wouldnt do anything that would take away from its history and rarity. Its hard to get over the "my gun has to be flawless" idea.
