One Technique To Work On.

Featured Replies

Whats one technique you would like to work on this season?

Mine is Deep Cranking.

Punching

I fished a drop shot for the first time on my last trip out last year and that's all I have thought about this long, long winter. I caught fish on it and see it as a good technique to learn.

Hmm... I guess spinnerbaits or carolina rigs. I stick to a bait/lure arsenal that works great for me year round and I have never felt the need to try anything new. Jigs, swimjigs, texas rigs, chatterbaits, cranks, and lipless cranks can do exactly what I want very nicely.

Can i pick more than one? 1st would be Deep Cranking, but I would like to get better at Carolina Rigging and swim baits.

Dropshot and jig,

Never tried either technique, but i've got the gear for it now.

Flipping and pitching are at the top.

Pitch'in and Flippin under docks and boat houses

Jigs, and spinnerbaits. Gonna devote a lot of time to them this year.

Deep crankin and I plan to PERFECT the top water fishing.

Sticking with the basics ~ Very accurate casting -

And while I'm at it - I'd be nice to be a more confident and capable Skipper of baits as well.

Skip casting under docks and overhangs.

I'm going to keep flippin'. I'm good now after a few years of hard practice and doing a heck of a lot of it, but I want to be as good as the master someday who taught me. It's magic how fast, accurate, and just down right good you can become at it, and it makes a difference, with more fish in the boat.

Ps, it's actually pitching I'm talking about, just regionally it's called different things, either pitching or flippin'.

Treble baits in general. I haven't had much more than limited success with hard-bodied lures of any form. I am more of a soft-plastic/spinnerbait kind if guy, and I would really like to gain confidence in other areas.

Well I don't drop shot much but won't spend time on it either.  I flip and pitch a lot!  I'll probably work on flipping more as I tend to pitch shorter distances because I'm not really tall and can't garner lots of line in my loose hand.....causing me to pitch not flip.  So I'll work on flipping more to the end of my flipping distance.

Accurate casting is always a must for me so learning about my new Ci4's and Metanium's will be a bit of fun.

I'm working on skipping under the docks and boathouses.  The thing thats driving me nuts right now is I'm always hitting the standing posts and then having the birdnest from hell to deal with.  I have 12 inches of structure to water clearance and 6 feet between posts but I always seem to hit the post.  Sooner or later I'll get it or die of a heart attack from the stress!

lol, get heart pills, it never ends!  Amazing how a rope hanging for a dock turns into a magnet to catch your bait.

swimbaits...jerkbaits...(maybe try to spybait... but that one is not a priority)

I fish regularly with a master at pitching, and I may never get as good as him-I am committed to try though. When pitching to impossible spots are what it takes to get bit, he will always out-fish me, even from the back of my boat. Using either hand is one of his secrets and I am making improvements. Give me a few more years and I may just get it right?!
