Rapala Knot

Featured Replies

Does anyone use this for jerkbaits?  How does it do with flouro?  does it burn the line?

1 After tying my original Rapala minnows with all sorts of knots throughout these years I finally discovered that the best knot for a Rapala minnow is .....the Rapala knot ( duhhhh ! ), so, the best knot for a Rapala Minnow is the Rapala knot, and since I tie my minnows with that knot now I tie all jerkbaits with it.

2 I can´t tell you how it does with FC.

3 Any knot will burn FC if you don´t wet it before tightening the knot, saliva does a nice lubricant for that purpose.

Rule of thumb-  If its summer, use a double palomar.  If it's winter, double palomar.  Any in between season, I use a double palomar.  If it's daytime or nighttime, raining or dry, clear or cloudy...  I use a double palomar.

I hope this helped.

that is my general rule of thumb also just thinking the rapala knot may give the jerkbait a little extra action.  I always waste a lot of expensive FC tying a palomar though with bigger baits which is another reason I asked.

Switch to the 16-20 also known as a Duncan or Pitzen Knot  http://www.netknots.com/fishing_knots/pitzen-knot

NOTE: I modify the knot by wrapping the tag from the eyelet up putting the tag through the top loop

in the same direction as the main line. Play with it a little and you will like the neat appearance. This

knot is effectively a noose.
