Rod Guide Repair

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I bought an *** Black from a member off here knowing it had a broken guide, so thats not the issue.  I took it to a local rod builder, the only one I could find.  He said he couldn't get that exact guide but he could get a similar fuji guide, so i thought it would be fine.  I just got it back yesterday, the wrap is decent, the finish is decent, has some tiny air bubbles, and the guide is pretty close.  its the right size and everything, you cant really tell unless you go up to the guide that its different.  I just want to make sure this wont hurt the performance of the rod. Any input would be great, thanks!

Theres nothing wrong with the blank at all, no scratches or anything. I will try and get some pics up tomorrow.

Nothing to worry about. Fish it and enjoy the rod. Guide repair is a common thing. You have inserts that pop out or a bent guide frame and even a broken tip.

No problems whatsoever. You ended up with a better guide than what came on the rod originally. A set of Fuji titaniums costs almost as much as that rod sells for new.

You might be able to get the air bubbles out by heating the epoxy for a second with a lighter..

Not now that the finish has cured. There's a very short window for that to happen.....maybe an hour or so after application, depending on brand.
