Best Swim Bait Hooks For The $

Featured Replies

i'm looking for some bigger keel weighted hooks, 5/0 and 6/0.  Any recs?  so many to chose from.

Owner Beast are tremendous.  I also just picked up some Davis Baits SS that are good as well.

I have total confidence in the Owner Beast, and always have one tied on.

Owner Beast is my suggestion as well, best there is right now IMHO. The Mustad's are alright, they're good hooks, just not at the level of the Owner.

On my light paddle tails(powerteam, sick fish, basstrix, yum money) I prefer to just get a hook in the bait and let a treble do the lifting. A split hollow belly maybe a big hook like that but one thing I find even with jigs is getting that big stout hook a fish can use it to his advantage to unbutton.

Can't argue with Owner. But I like Eagle Claw Lazer's with the screw locks.

I also say owner. I use tube jig heads inside of my hollow bellies almost 100% of the time now though.

I can never decide if I like any of them and I use the zoom horny toad hooks in 5/0 alot and I also use a kahle hook and will lip hook a swimbait with a loop knot and let it sway if not in thick stuff. I crimp a split shot on hook shank for weight.

I'm not a fan of twist lock springs so I don't use that style hook

The Falcon Lures Bait-Jerk Superline Hook has been good for two season now.

Owner beast hands down for me!

If want the best hook for swimbaits it's the owner beast hands down. That's the hook I throw when money is on the line and I have 100% confidence in that hook.

I myself hate the Owner Beast. I have had bad experiences with the spring-lock style swimbait hooks, mostly because of their design. I feel most of them are much too "deep" and too short. I think the Owner Beast is the  most extreme in these categories.

The hook bend is so deep, and the overall length is short. This leaves a very small distance between the hook point and the spring-lock, which is where the bass needs to bite for you to get a hookset. Also it leaves a ton of hook underneath the bait which looks unnatural to me. I don't know why you would need a hook shaped like this unless you're trying to rig a softball. When I first purchased hollow belly swimbaits, this was the hook the associate recommended, and I couldn't pay a fish to bite my swimmers. Once I switched to an EWG with lead molded I started to really catch them, go figure.

Really IMO the best screw is gamakatsu. They don't have the center pin that others have and therefor have a better hold. With the pin in the middle it almost cuts out a chunk of the bait. The only issue with gamakatsu is you might have to bend the spring around the eye because they can fall off if it pulls out.

I still say for overall I like the owners best but will sometimes change the spring lock.
