Mounting Battery Charger - Need Help

Featured Replies

I have a 96 Stratos 285XL.  This is my first boat and I have a new battery charger that I would like to mount.  As far as location, there is an area next to my cranking battery (in the bilge) that will work.  However, I'm nervous about inserting mounting screws as I'm afraid that I may hit something (gas tank, etc.) or put a hole in the boat!  Any thoughts / help would be appreciated.

Ive always just drilled holes and screwed it in but my cousin showed me a great way to mount his. he screwed it to a piece of fiberglass. just alil bigger than than the actual charger. than he used liquid nails or some sort of fiberglass adhesive and glued it to the inside wall of the boats transom. he did the same when he mounted his transducer and structure scan module

See if you can look inside panels and if you can't stick your head in there, Stick your hand in there and take a pic with your phone to get an idea if something is in the way.

Pictures would be helpful for reference. When I mounted mine, I built a bracket for my charger and mounted the bracket partially on a removable plate that covers my pumps. That way I only had to drill one hole into the foam bank and also limiting chances of messing anything up.

Thanks!  I think I have figured out what I want to do.  There is a hinged metal shelf that covers the bilge area.  It is connected the to the transom and rest on a shelf, bridging the bilge.  The previous owner had folded it back, out of the way.  I can fold it down and it makes for a perfect mounting place.
