Fish Finder Wiring

Featured Replies

Appreciate any tips/suggestions for wiring and mounting a depth finder in a bass raider. (No existing wiring or connectors). Gauge of wire? Thanks

Humminbird power cords are 6' in length and that may be enough to attach directly to the battery. Put a spade type fuse/holder on the positive conductor.

If you have to extend the power cord conductors, use 18 guage or larger wire.

Your battery location would be the determining factor.

I would suggest you use a separate battery for the electronics and trolling motor to reduce the possiblity of RFI from the motor if you have a variable speed TM.

This is a must!!  I blew my unit due to this very reason.  Cost me $200 to get it fixed.

It's usually a very low amp. I think mine is 2 or 2.5 amps.

an inline fuse holder is like 3 bucks at auto-zone.  good for piece of mind!

Funny you should mention Auto Zone. That's the first place that popped up when I did a search for that part. I' like to do things right if I'm going to do them at all. Rather spend a few bucks than waste $1.

One other thing, Id place the fuse on the positive side, as close to the battery as possible. That way if you get a short anywhere along the line you will be covered.
