My new all star pro2 spinning 6' med action rod is really nice. I'd like to upgrade from my okuma, Finor, US reel spinning reels to something better? I seen a daiwa procyon?? It lists for $177 and it's on sale for $107 is it worth it should I look at something else?

I own Daiwa, Shimano and Abu and from all of them I find Daiwa to be the nicest of them and with a 70 dollars rebate why wait ?

Bill, I love my Stradic 1000FI on a 5'9" rod. I've got a Daiwa Lexa, and did look at the Procyon, but for some reason couldn't pull the trigger. I've seen negative reviews online, but there's negative reviews for almost anything now-a-days. I'm slowly changing out my heavier gear for lighter gear, typically more expensive. It is so much better on my elbows and being out for long periods of time.

 

For $107, it might just be a great reel to work with. Maybe folks who have a Procyon will chime in. For about $20 more (or even less) you can get a Shimano Saros on ebay with X-ship (double bearing supported pinion gear) for better cranking when under load. Just FWIW....

 

The Procyon 1500 is 8.5 oz, the Saros 1000 is 7.1, but jumps to 9.3 for a 2500.

With the $70 it's probably worth a try. At full retail I like the Shimano Saros and up due to the worm gear oscillation. Their AR system is much better than the average spinning reel as well.

I have $100 to spend. I found a procyon for $89 with 9 great reviews. Yet at tackle tour it got bad reviews. I may wait for a sale or have to spend more $$$.

Try looking at a daiwa lexa 2000, pflueger supreme 30 or a used/new symetre fj 2500

The Pflueger Purist are also REALLY nice for $80.

What's wrong with the Fin-Nor?  It's a very good reel, why spend money if you don't have to.

Many reviews are from users using a brand new reel, that's why they are favorable.  A review worthy of note is one where the reel has been used for a substantial amount of time, catching a lot of fish helps too.
