I was just thinking about my first casting rod earlier, a 6' m/f compre with the full cork handle, and was wondering why companies dont produce them this short anymore. I absolutely loved that rod and used it for for everything. Casting distance was pretty good and balanced extremely well with a citica d. I regret sending it in for replacement for a chipped tip guide because shimano send me a 6'9 replacement. Life moves on, but why such long rods as a minimum length?

^{Funny isn't it, I'm 50 and 30 years ago a 7' rod was long. 5'6"-6' was the norm. I don't know how many pistol grip 5'6" rods I had but it was a lot. How times change}

Loomis makes their 'Classic Casting' rods. They are all full cork 6' models.

Those Loomis are nice but pricey. I got my compre used from this flea market for $60 shipped! Hell of a deal imo.

I have 2 of the Loomis CR723's. If you follow eBay, you can find the CR722 IMX's at good prices. They are used but most appear to be very nice. I bid and won one for around $125.00 a while back and it would have been a very nice rod but the clown never sent it to me. I did get my money back from eBay in the end. The 722's always are very popular on ebay.

All Star still makes short, full cork models.  They are exclusive to Academy and cost around $50.
