Pre-Rapala Wiggle Warts...or....scatter Rap?

Featured Replies

Lots of talk of the Pre-rapala wiggle warts and their "hunting" action. I want some opinions of whether to buy the scatter raps or start acquiring the pre-rapala warts?

Well, in order to be succesful you should have an assortment of different types, styles & sizes, there´s no such thing as a magic baits or a Jack of all trades. There are days and even times when one type of bait murders the fish and another won´t work, later it can be the opposite, so get a few of each.

The BaitMonkey did not made me post this, if it that were the case I woun´t have typed A FEW ( notice it says A FEW ).

If you can find them at a good price, go for the pre-rap Warts.  They cast farther and you can retrieve them faster.  Just because it is an old Wart, you are not guaranteed a bait that will hunt - not all of them did.

The Scatter Raps are very light, and roll over on a quicker retrieve.  I have heard, but not experienced myself, is durability issues on the Scatter Raps.

All in all, I would buy one of each, use both of them and see which you like better. Then, after that, go buy a couple of much cheaper KVD1.5s and you'll forget about both of those other two baits. ;)

if you want to fish them up off the bottom, the scatter rap is the better choice ( more cost effective) if you want them on the bottom i would go the wart they are much more durable...

The old warts are over hyped IMO.  None of my pre Rapala warts hunt.   The only hunting wart I have is a post Rapala wart and its hunting action leaves a lot to be desired.  Wiggle Warts action in general leaves a lot to be desired.  My DT-6s beat the crap out of my warts every year.

If you really want hunting action, check out the Imakatsu Waddle Bat.

I'll trade you my Rapala DT-6s for your pre Rapala warts  :eyebrows:  They don't work magic everywhere but if you ever have the misfortune of fishing behind a good warter on one of the White River chain of lakes and you'll see why they're so hyped up.

As for the OP's question, those are 2 very different baits, even though they're both supposed to hunt. The new warts are made more similar to the old ones so you could just pick some of those up and some scatter raps and give them both a try. IMO, the warts are great early in the year up to the spawn, the Scatter Raps are better after the spawn until the water starts to get cold again.
