Stanley Ribbit Double Take

Featured Replies

Anybody ever use the Stanley Jigs Ribbit Double Take hooks when rigging a Zoom Horny Toad? Making my list for the next trip to BPS and was just curious. Thanks in advance.

I've found the Double Take in 4/0 - 5/0 which maybe to big for the Horny Toad.

I have some double takes for my Stanley ribbits but never use them.. my hook up percentage is wayy wayy higher with just a regular 4 or 5/0 ewg with a twist lock ... Zoom makes hooks specifically for horny toads they have them on TW. Not sure if they are good or not.

I used the Zoom Horny Toad hooks all the time when I first started using Ribbits and never had an issue with hookups.  I tried the double take hooks fut found them to be too large for the standard Ribbits.  I think they were designed primarily for the Bull Ribbits.  Either way, I tried them and didn't like them.  They ended up causing too many legs getting ripped off, because the hooks penetrate at the legs and not in the main body.  I switched back to the traditional EWG hook with a keeper pin.

My luck with zoom's horny toad hook has not been too good. It tends to tear up your toad far quicker than a 5/0 or 4/0 EWG. Hookups also are harder to come by with the zoom hook b/c in my experience it makes the toad keep flipping over.
