Line Problem

Featured Replies

Hello all new to the site and wanted to get some thoughts. Every once in awhile while throwing a crank bait, my line will snap just around the reel and first eye on my rod. My lure will fly in the water and i lose quite amount of line in the process. Does anyone have a reason why?? I'm using a skeet Reese crank bait rod with a lews speed spool.

Could be a defect in one of the rod eyes. Some use a Q-tip any run the eyes to see if there's a crack. Also, check the line, sometimes flouro kinks, and breaks...

Def. check your guides on the rod. I bought a brand new rod from BPS a while back and the guide on the tip kept fraying my line. I had to take it back and get a new one. My nearest bass pro is a 35 minute drive.. Im better about checking them now.

What kind of line are you using?

I dont like that line. I'd try something elae.to be honest I use big game clear 12lb mono. You can get a spool with like 1200 yards for 8 bucks.

Sounds like your hitting something on your, cast does your rod have a hook keeper?

Best way to solve that is just snip the keeper off or get different line. I'd opt for the new line.

Check your rod guides & reel guide for a flaw. If none found then change line to another brand like yo-zuri hybrid or maxima.

Check the guides for nicks, and change your line to Sunline Maxima, Yo-Zuri or Toray. They are more expensive, but it is worth it. Vanish is pretty bad... If you find a nick in a guide, go to a reputable tackle shop and get it repaced, or if your rod is still under warranty, you can send it to Wright and Mcgill and they will repair and replace it.

That happens with flouro and some monos after kinking from backlash.

It's the line.  Highly unlikely to have a nick on the first guide, even if there was one I don't think a nick would cause line to wrap around reel or guide, it may sever the line.

I agree.

Its vanish, I really think they named that stuff after what happens to the fish after the hookset.
