Wakebaits - When And Where Do You Use Them?

Featured Replies

I've never thrown a wake bait.  When and where do YOU throw them?  Warmer or colder water temps?  Morning/evening or all day long?  Shallow or deep water?

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Dave

Warm shallow water in the evening.  I like to fish the foot or so of water above coontail beds before they become emergent.

I also prefer a fast wobbling bait over the lazy, slow S shaped swimming motion.

Warm(er) water

All day but prefer low light

Around cover/grass lines

Shallow

I seem to do better with low or no wind

The "v" is the key.

I guess it all depends on what you mean by wakebait. 8in plus wakebaits work all year but tend to work best from the spawn through the fall. Wakebaits work great at night, early/late hrs of the day and when there is wind or cloud cover. Fact of the matter is I always have one tied up and ready to go.
