Tackle Advice Please

Featured Replies

Alrighty, I have been fishing this pond this year its not very deep it seems, but I have pulled out 14 bass in 3 hours large bass too, but this was during spawn and now they are on beds and rattletraps are not working. I have fished spinners with no luck and tried plastics and no luck, I may be fishing them wrong or to fast. Can you guys give me some ideas on what tackle I should try using and or how to display it. Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey! Personally I do a lot of pond fishing, I'm young, don't have a boat for the lake, and nobody in my family fishes, so I've learned a lot on my own. Anyway lately in the spawn I've been using a green pumpkin baby brush hog with a bullet weight and regular worm hook, it's been killing them! Just make sure and fish it a little slower when you know your close to the beds, best of luck!

Fish some sort of bottom contact bait, generally a soft plastic. Fish it ultra ultra slow unless you can see a bed. If they're on beds and you can see them you basically have to pester them into biting. They get very territorial and something that moves in and out of the area without getting close to the bed isn't perceived as a threat so they have no reason to hit it. If you see a bed, cast past it and bring it back slowly over the bed even just letting it sit for a bit.

Can you see the beds? If so pitching soft baits

Into the beds... A drop shot rig / or a multitude of

Other plastic rigs Can work....try dead sticking..

While still trying to impart some action... They lock down for a while... You can still catch them!

If you cannot see beds.... Slow drag a football jig/ crawfish... And fire away on casting... Changing angles and be patient. Good luck

Okay good advice. How slow so I fish plastics? I get very impatient and I think I may fish to fast.

That´s exactly the point, you getting very impatient, time to practice patience. Slowly and methodically if it doesn´t get enough attention in one bed it will get it in the next.

I've only caught one off the beds this year. I didn't mean to (I'm one of the non-bed fishermen), but I caught it with a split shot rig. It was a nice one too. But yea, the slow fall of the split shot rig probably enticed her enough to pounce.

I'd give the jigs with a craw trailer a try as well as a t-rigged lizard.
