Why is carbontec drag washers mentioned so

Often as a upgrade? Isn't the current drag materials sufficient.... I can understand many years ago.. But now? So please explain what I am missing on this.... Does not carbon leave a particulate grit behind? It's inexspensive for sure.

But is it needed in freshwater bass fishing?

Try them and you'll get it. ;)

Carbon Tex washers a big upgrade in my opinion. Much smoother, no disintegrating like shimano stock drags. Theyre great.

The Carbontex drag washers are stronger in some case but importantly they are smooth and shudder free. They can be run dry or greased for better heat dissipation if targeting hard running fish.

I was wondering is it worth it to upgrade a chronarch ci4 with the carbontex? If I'm correct they have a carbon drag already or is it not?

They seem to be of great benefit to older reels especially Daiwa reels where the drags were rated fairly low. Most of the new model reels of today are much stronger and smoother that I wouldn't update them. At any rate the cost is low. Usually gain a pound or two of drag and smoothness.

It's an inexpensive replacement part, real question is it needed.  I have never replaced my drag in any of my reels, stock drags have been just fine.  I've been pondering replacing my drag pads in 2 4000 stradics, these reels are about 5 years, they have handled a lot of fish that make long runs.  But it's something easy to do.

Not sure about the new Ci4+ but the older model Ci4 and up to the Stradic FJ and Sustain FE all used the "Dartanium" drag washers I believed is what they called them, anyway mine all have Carbontex washers as soon as I get them. I run all mine wet, from 1 lbs. to 20 lbs. smoooootttthhhhh as silk! I also, when servicing customers reels that don't use them, it is the first thing I ask them to upgrade to, very inexpensive and even if not needed, it is only a couple bucks to know you have the finest drag available for your reel, and standard part of any Super Tune!!

As far as needed,,,,,,a Sienna is a better than the reel than I had years ago, but I still prefer the Stradic's and Sustain's today,,,,,like I said, very inexpensive to go first class with a carbon drag!!
