Fishing Unkown Waters.

Featured Replies

I'll be fishing a small lake tomorrow i'm not familar with and i'm not sure what i should use. I know theres weed lines as well as brush in certain areas. Water is pretty dingy so it's clarity isn't the best. Any suggestions? Thanks guys!

senkos is what I always throw when I dont know what to really start with.

Don´t ask what to use, deduct what you want to throw. Have you fished brush ? have you fished weeds ?, have you fished dingy water ? if so, with how and with what you fished them. Whenever I go fishing to a place I have never fished before I look for what is familiar to me and start from there,

Where is more important that what ;)

Assess for clarity, temp, and available structure...then start with your confidence baits for the given conditions and go from there!

X2

work the banks with soft plastics.

shakey heads with straight tail worms.

weightless fluke type jerkbait texas rigged.

EDIT:

Just noticed that you were going this morning. Soft plastics are the most versatile IMO. A box of various hooks, weights and terminal tackle and a few packs of plastic and you can pretty much fish any condition.

How'd you do?

I had no luck with plastics. But I caught 2 smallies on a rebel wee crank bait. Good enough for me!
