Ben reading about Shaky Head jigs, and although have never tried any, probably will.

But was wondering:

 

What makes a Shaky Jig Head  a Shaky Jig Head as compared to all the other jig head styles that are available ?

 

What "magic" in it's construction does it have ?

 

Is it simply that it is designed to always land on the bottom with the hook point up, while other

jig head styles can land almost any-which-way ?

 

Or,...?

shaky head does not have a weed guard, as it as a bait keeper instead.

I'm not going to say I invented shakeyheading because like me, somebody else may have had the same idea somewhere else, however, I have been shakeyheading since I began fishing for bass over 3 decades ago, for me a shakeyhead is nothing more than a modified version of the jighead rig where the hook used on the jighead is a lot larger than the ones regularily used for comercial jigheads. What kind of jigheads I use ? I pour my own with a regular jighead mold, not the most scientific nor trendy but equally effective. I've been thinking about getting me a more modern now available shakey jighead mold but, oh well, if it ain't broke .....

The biggest differences between what is refered to as a shakey head jig and the old stand by ball head jig is the addition of a bait keeper and a longer/stouter hook.  They may have different head designs and line tie positions and angles, but they all share those two.

I use the stand up jigs for my shaky head instead of ball heads.
