anyone use these guys cor cleaning reels? i picked up a couple curados id like to get cleaned up before i use them. was wondering do they do good quality work

I have used about every major reel tech out there. Dan Issac at Reel-Ex is a great guy to send your reels to. He has more experience cleaning and tuning shimano reels than anybody I have came across. I believe he used to be a tech for them at one point. His turnaround times are the best you will find. I sent him my reels on a Thursday and had them back the following Friday. He gives a discount for multiple reels and there is more info listed on the website. I believe he is working on other brands as of recently but he cut his teeth on shimanos. He also includes supertuning in the cost which is a nice plus.

You won't be dissapointed with either.

Turn around varies with season and day to day orders. If you need a deadline met call or email and I'll schedule to meet your needs. Please keep in mind that the complete frame bare cleaning I do takes just under two hours per reel. Shimano reels are among the simplest to work on, so they're no problem. Sorry for the missed call. X2 on Dan at Reel-Ex. I didn't want to post that since he isn't a sponsor because it seems when I post on here about a service or store that is not a sponsor here I get wailed on about how the sponsors here are better. I'm not saying that Mike at DVT isn't better, I have just never used him. I'm sure he does a great job as many people on this forum recommend him. I have used Dan though and my experiences have always been more than great and I would recommend him to anyone looking to get their reels serviced.

For shimanos it's hard to beat the service from Reel Ex.

Bad question to ask. Everyone on here is going to say that there is no way that they are abec 9 bearings and that it won't make any difference over abec 5 bearings. I have talked to Dan about this matter and I would do the upgrade if I were you, totally worth it. I did it on two of my reels and they are crazy. The reason I say bad question is because I already got manhandled on this forum about them not being abec 9 bearings, though they are. Like stated earlier, Dan actually worked for Shimano and is a stand up guy. I wouldn't hesitate on the bearings.

I don't think it's possible to manhandle someone over the internet. 

 

$20 for a bearing upgrade is a good price, but I don't think you'll see enormous gains in performance unless you're pitching. Most dudes upgrade their bearings because they like to tinker with reels. A properly cleaned and oiled bearing goes a long way.

Reel parts can't reach  speeds high enough to benefit from anything above and ABEC5 anything more is pure enthusiast territory, which is fine as long as expectations are realistic. The skepticism of the cheap bearings that surface here and there is based on the old "if it sounds too good to be true..". I can see under cutting a competitor if you can by a 10% or so but why leave 300% on the table? It's just not how business works. It's some bearing distributors I'm leery of not colleagues.
