Favorite Post-Cold Front Baits

Featured Replies

A cold front will roll through tonight where I live and I'm scheduled to do some post-spawn fishing bright and early tomorrow.  What are some of your favorite post-cold front baits and tactics?  Is the effect cold fronts have on bass exaggerated?

Depends.. based on my experience its largely a myth along with the drop in fishing w/ high pressure.

I've caught lots of large ones post frontal.

The depends is when and if water temperatures drop 7-10 degrees.. then I'm going home..but you wont know til u get there.. and I love fishin when the front is moving thru as well during the storm!

Notice the rain on the surface of the lake (picture to the left)?

I love fishing right before the front hits, which is about right now where I'm at.  When the wind kicks up it's like a feeding frenzy on the choppy side of the lake.

Yep just before is great as well when you smell the rain comin in.. its a great feeling to be alive when you sniff that rain comin in!  As long as theres no lightning.. its all good!

Depends on your location. Florida strain largemouth shut down day after the cold front. Further north not so much as further south but still some negativity. The day of the cold front coming in can be ok. The first day after the cold front is less but not as bad as the 2nd & 3rd day.

I fish for something other than bass if a cold front is coming through haha

I go finesse and usually do alright.

That same cold front just hit us, too.

Around here, the bass are affected.  The waters I have been fishing this year are heavily pressured and many times the two combine to make it very difficult to catch much.

I fish northern strain and its not slow at all after storms for me.. in fact Im gonna stop by the lake tomorrow after todays storms having checked the weather and marked the day after the storm forecast.

I did not know that about Florida strain.. where did you get that info?

If so, learnin' somethin new every day.. :)

I have 2 different plans of attack for post cold front. I'll usually start with covering water quickly looking for a reaction bite. If that doesn't work I'll slow down and drag a jig.
