Trouble With Fluorocarbon.

Featured Replies

Hello fellow forum users,

I have a weird problem with Fluorocarbon that I can't figure out. I recently spooled my Metanium 13 HG with Toray Super Hard Strong 10lb. The first cast I made, I noticed that the line had some deformity 20m or so into the spool and it wasn't going on the spool properly. I then returned the line and purchased Sunline FC Shooter 10lb to spool onto my reel. Couple of trips in, I noticed that the line had some unevenness around 10m in (makes some grinding sound when I'm reeling it in), and a lot of line deformities around 30m in which causes to spool unevenly. My rod that I have been throwing the lines on is F4-68X7( I checked the guides for any kind of sign of roughness, but found none). Am I doing something wrong with the line? or Am I getting really unlucky?

I appreciate any help you guys can offer me.

Thanks in advance

Describe these deformities if you would please.

It kind of looks like when a line gets rubbed against an edge and becomes straightened out instead of going into an loop.

Are you using any lubricants or experiencing backlashes? It sounds like loose line under tight line deforming the under laying line. FC sheds off water and dries very quickly, then tends to loosen during the cast. A good line lubricant like Tangle Free keeps the line wet and the line remains tight on the spool. KVD claims to wet the line or allow water to coat the line but I don't think it works as good on FC.

Absolutely no lubricants nor backlash. I think I figured out one of the problem though, I kind of messed up in the way I tied my arbor knot when I went through the spool instead of around it.
