Got the news a few days ago that I'm moving back to Indiana, around Indianapolis (looking at Noblesville). I never got into fishing til after I moved from Indiana, so I was wondering where some good places are and what normally works around there? Thanks in advance

In terms of the public lakes in the Indianapolis area for bass most people go to Geist (fishers) and Morse (near Noblesvile) they produce some fish and Jacob Wheeler posts pics at times of some big ones coming out of geist...there are some private lakes North that produce better and bigger bass but you have to live on them...

You think the private lakes and pits are holding bigger bass than the reservoirs?  Interesting.  I also live on a private lake on Indy's northside and my best out of it is 6.5.  My best out of Geist is 8.5.  I've reeled in 10+ # wipers on the private lake, not to mention some monster cats and carp.  This year has been much better than last.  The long winter seems to have helped all local fisheries.

To the OP, there are some unorthodox alternatives on the northside, such as 6 pounders in golf course ponds, that will surprise you!  Are you looking to boat or shore fish?

When I said private lakes I really ment a certain one (and one across the road that gave up a 10 last  year) 100 acres 35 miles NE of Indianapolis. I ment consistent size compared to other lakes but my best out of it is 10.50 and it has produced a few others that size and I have seen 3 fish that I think were over 11 (one eating a duck...one 5 yards from the boat on brothers line...and one caught off my dock by a friend that hadn't fished in 20 years and had no idea what she had)...This year has been down though after the hard winter things the last few trips have seemed to pick up thought...Have been out 7 times this year (the year we had the mild winter I went out 5 times a week..but the business has picked up)...and we have got a 6.5, 6, and a 5.8 ....this year is the worst I have seen in at least 4 years though..

I do think Geist is your best shot in the lakes around Indianapolis for big fish.  The only like I know of in the midwest that is better is a private lake in KY 30 miles from evansville its another world from what we have...

When you say this this year has been down, do you mean that the bigguns are sparce, or that fishing as a whole has been down?  Since the thaw, I've noticed on our lake that numbers of 1-3 pounders is way up, and anything heavier is way down.
