Does anyone know of a way to correct a casting reel that spool line unevenly, where the line stacks higher on one side of the spool? I don't know if it matters, but the reel is a Lews TP1SH.

Yes.. Sorta.... When I was much younger I would make those errors to.... If you have cut the line just tye on a1 oz sinker and go throw it a few times... It will wind it's way back on evenly. I am assuming you have respooled and that is the problem.... If you have just started the respooling process.... Then just rewind back to original line holder( spool) .... But just cast with heavy weight long distance will correct the problem.... But you may still be short on a proper spool fill...

That's not it. This isn't my first casting reel, It's closer to my 100th. Every now and then, I've had a reel do this. And when one does it, it does it consistently. I'm guessing it's something with the level wind or the spool alignment.

Check the pawl cap and make sure it is tight.  Make a short cast in the yard and retrieve the line, watching the pawl travel on the worm gear, should tell you if you have a pawl or worm gear issue.
