Why are some hooks spelled out x/x while others are #x (the "x" representing the number hook). For example, what's the difference between a 2/0 and #2 hook?

Why are some hooks spelled out x/x while others are #x (the "x" representing the number hook). For example, what's the difference between a 2/0 and #2 hook?

 

Silly stuff. kinda like tennis scoring, numbers get smaller as hooks get larger until you get to 1, then you skip 0, and go to 1/0, 2/0, 3/0 etc, and now the numbers and the hooks get larger together. To make matters worse, there is no standard, so 2 hooks labeled the same size can be different sizes, sometimes significantly.

1/0-2/0-3/0-4/0-5/0-6/0-7/0-8/0  The size increases.  Therefore  8/0> 6/0>4/0>2/0
