Punchin Weight Choice

Featured Replies

I want to punch some hydrilla thats pretty thick and its also mixed with our favorite pond slime in place jus mats of it all over. What weight do you think would be minimum for that kind of heavy cover? Ive got a 3/4 and 1oz weight but if I want to use skirts on them would i need like 1.25 or 1.5?

Trial and error. I always like to use the minimal I can get away with.  1 oz is a good starting point and if its hanging up move to 1.25 and so on.  If you're punching through with relative ease I might drop to a 3/4 punch but really do I not go less than that.  It's not really punching if you're going below that, just pitching.

3/4 weight, skirt, hook, lure, whatever you peg with & you're some where between 7/8 - 1 oz.

I like 1 oz. weights with a plastic bait that is compact.  I can usually punch straight through without any problem.
