Anyone Have A Nerve Pinch Problem With St. Croix Rage Baitcasting Rod?

Featured Replies

I had 2 St. Croix Rage rods, one was a spinning rod, which I loved, but broke the tip off putting it in my boats rod locker. Not sure it can be fixed. The other was a St. Croix Rage Baitcasting rod.

It was a nice, light rod, but whenever I would hold it with my left and and reeled with my right it would pinch a nerve. I tried it for a year and it happened every time almost, sending a shock of pain through my hand. I switched rods and have never had that problem again. I've got a few St. Croix Mojo Bass Rods and Cabelas Tournament ZX rods and don't have this problem. I know the Rage had an open spot in the handle where the rod went through for sensitivity and I think that's the part that caused the problem.

Anyone else have this problem with St. Croix Rage Baitcasting Rods?

Never had an issue with the ones I've had but it might have something to do with the reel seat being so minimal. Maybe try some rod tape to add a little cushion for you to grip.

Sounds like it might have been a combination of several factors.  If it does it again I would have it checked out.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's because the handle/reel seat is so skinny. You really have to grip it to get a hold of it compared to more traditional sized handles. Shame too because the material they used for that handle feels really nice and I like how easy it is to keep it clean. The execution was very poor though.

I've been using the casting and spinning Rage 7'1" rods since they came out and haven't experienced any issues with discomfort. I would definitely get it checked out to be safe
