Hey guys, just a quick question when using crankbaits would you tie to line or use those clips .

I always tie a knot and most of the time its a palomar knot to the split ring.  Clips and Snaps change the action of a bait and they are too bulky for me.

I can tie a loop knot faster than I can find my pliers and try to sqweeze that little tiny thing.

Either a Palomare or a Canoe Man Loop

Palomar to the split rings, though I do change all of my round split rings to oval first. I HATE snaps/duo locks on crank baits.

If fishing a tounament I use the Norman Speed Clips for a faster change out.

If just messin around locally I use a loop knot.

I was using the clinch but after being harrased ( ) by bass resource members I switched to the Palomar and love it haha

For billed cranks I use a rapala knot. For lipless it's a trilene knot.

Wow thanks guys I was using the clips and the bait just didn't feel right to me, so it messed with my confidence.

If a clip or snap is altering the baits action, you're using one thats too big. I use a size one Kahara snap. No problems opening and closing them and I can switch out baits in a snap. Just watched a video of Brent Ehrler and he said he uses snaps with his cranks. Seem to remember Aaron Martens does also. Never noticed a difference in action or catch rates and unless you use the oval rings, you don't have to worry about the knot sliding around to the open spot in the ring causing breakoffs. If you feel snaps affect the baits action and reduce your confidence, by all means tie direct. It's all about confidence.

When I got the clips I chose the large ones, thinking it'll be easier to open while switching baits. I think you're right about it being to big. Thanks for the tips

Clips. Makes changing the cranks out faster and easier.

I use size 1 kahara snaps as well.   Since I use snaps I will also take off the regular split ring that comes with the bait. I havent ever had one open up while hooked up with a fish.  Action on the crankbait is good and it makes switching crankbaits a lot easier.  Im one of those people who might switch crankbaits 5 times in 15 minutes.

Another nod to using small snaps...#1.  I don't need pliers to open and close the snap, either...just my fingers.  While tying does not take all that long, I prefer to change the crankbaits more quickly and without cutting line each time. Tying directly certainly has me holding off putting a new colour/type on. The amount of line lost using a palomar knot on a snap is much less than on a CB. 

 

I don't notice a huge difference in the action.
