St. Croix Avid X

Featured Replies

When I hear micro guides I think about the size of a Duckett MicroMagic rod.

I would fish with guides the size of the Avid X's for frogging.

Frog rod with micro guides? I surely hope not!

Did you watch the video? What's the guy doing?

As an Avid user, I'm hoping these 'AvidX' rods are an addition to the lineup, and the people at St. Croix are not overthinking the current Avid series of rods. Of course, I don't know how well the Avid series sells these days. Those of us who prefer a more traditional rod are likely not driving the market. And a lot of guys are like me. I already own my Avids. Unless they come out with a 7' 3" version of their M and MH rods (Please St. Croix!) I don't have much reason to buy any rods in the near future. But when I do want to buy a new Avid, or need to replace one of my current ones, I hope they still exist for years to come.

Hi Daniel, I see this is your first post, so welcome aboard!

I for one will be watching these. I'm not a fan of the Avid grips, heresy, I know. I still think Shimano Compres cork grips are the best I've used.,

Yeah, when it first aired on their facebook page. First thing I thought was "why is he frogging with micro guides?".

Is it a frog specific technique rod?

No, it isn't a frog specific line. You'll find out on Thursday via facebook.

I frog with micro-guide rods all the time. It has never caused me any issues. Tons of cottonwood trees in my area as well, don't recall ever having an issue with micro-guides from that either.
