What kind of buck tails do you guys use and what trailers do you put on them brand and color. Also what do you catch with them I'm using them for striped bass

Oh and also what size do you use?

I fish for striped bass w white 3/4oz or 1oz w white or red uncle josh trailer. Andrus, spro or hand poured.

Size - 1/8 oz. to 5/8 oz ballhead, 3/4 oz. and 1oz. arrowhead, a few others

Color - a veritable rainbow

Never any trailers

Stripers are no different than snook and tarpon, I fish all them exactly the same way with the same lures.  Most bucktails I use are 1/2 and 3/4 oz.  My jig heads for flukes are always 1/4 oz, I don't deviate from that.  My preference is DOA 5 1/2" jerk shads, pearl with a red tail and I use either Strike King redfish jig heads or DOA jig heads.  In a pinch I will use a zoom fluke both regular and magnum on a Walmart plain 1/4 oz lead head.  In all honesty I catch as many fish on the Walmart and Zoom set up.  IMO stripers, snook and tarpon are easy fish to catch when they are on, when they are off they won't hit any lure.

3/8-1 ounce Spro bucktail naked, grub, or a shad. I use them mainly for wipers but catch a little bit of everything on them. 

if you are fishing a more horizontal presentation stay away from a spro. They are made for vertical jigging hence the eye location. You want a smiling bill style bucktail with the eye more forward.

I use 1/4-1 ounce white, chartruese, white with red head head, and white with blue or black hair on top. Most of the time i use no trailer but if i do its either a grub or small paddletail swimbait.

I also tie my own on scrounger heads and underspins like the sworming hornet and have caught good numbers of stripers and wipers when nothing else worked

I make my own heads and tie the jigs and there are a bunch of different ones I use. In the winter and early spring I tie small 1/16oz to 1/4oz buck tails on a round head, a football head and on a walleye head depending on whether I'm fishing them on a lake or river. Right now I'm using 3/8oz wedge head jigs with a 60 degree round bend heavy wire hook tied with buck tail and hackle feathers to slowly swim along the river bottom for big smallmouth, I tie on hackle feathers to add a little different action because these will not be used with a trailer. I also have the same heads in 5/8oz that are tied with buck tail and I use a 4" Manns Manipulator grub on the back as a trailer and they will be bottom bounced for largemouth in 10' to 20' of water.
