So I was fishing a local lake today and it was really windy. Winds were in the 18-25mph zone. Keeping my boat in one place was really hard. This is where a nice set of Power Poles would have come in handy. I fished out deep, docks, between docks, and out around some reeds. I caught 2 bass under a dock with a Senko. Three bass with a Scatter Rap. One was out near some reeds and the other two were from under docks. I didn't get one hit on a white/red spinnerbait, KVD Sexy Shad, KVD Swim Jig, or Ragetail Toad. I did lose at least a few fish under the dock on a Senko and one fish out in the open water on a Senko that was near the bottom. It was 75' degrees and sunny with a lot of cloud cover, so it would go from sunny to dark every few seconds.

It was really hard to stay in place and if I had been able to do that, I think I could have pulled some more bass out from underneath docks. The surface of the water was very wavy and choppy. I was surprised at no bites near the reeds and not one bite on the swim jig which had been very successful the last few outings at this lake. I really thought about using a weighted T-Rig worm and Zoom Fluke but didn't. Would those have been good choices?

What could I have done to catch more fish?

Heck you caught 5 fish, sounds successful to me. I'm starting to get skunked on a daily basis this time of year on my local lake.

In my lakes few good bass on the shore lines weeds or not. Try finding deeper structure or cover. Look for bait fish.

Down here in NC, we dont have clear water like that. That last picture is nice. I would love to fish a body of water that clear.

Great looking body of water. Several things you can do on windy days without spending loads of money on power poles.

1)Find some protected shore, protected bays, to duck behind.

2)Use the wind as a friend and let it float you across some productive water. Key is too put out a sea anchor, and it will slow you down big time.

3)If the wind is blowing through a cut, face into the wind and fish each side on the down wind side. Wind will cause current, and fish will position on the leeward side looking for targets. You can catch a bunch in these areas.

Skipping a senko under those docks should get bit for sure. A heavy flipping stick, braid, and a heavy weight in front of a compact plastic pitched into those reeds should get bit too.

Yep. The wind blown side is where I caught them with the Scatter Rap and lost one on a Senko.

This.  I always look for the most wind.  I believe it energizes the food chain and can put bass on the prowl.

I would add a jig with a compact trailer pitched under the docks to the suggestions already given.  Also, I would find the edge where these grassy flats drop-off into deeper water and fish there as well or I would look for a channel or slew leading to the flats if there is one.  Is this a natural lake or a reservoir?  And what is your general location?

"KVD Sexy Shad" Is a very broad category, did you mean a sexy shad colored squarebill, or deep crank, etc?

First, I would have tried a buzzbait in any protected bays that look like the last picture. Picture perfect buzzbait area. 

 

Otherwise I would have looked deep, drove around until i found some shelves, sand bars, rock bars, ect that are holding fish and ran a deep diver trough them. Position the boat so you are casting with the wind.
