Backing On A 50E?

Featured Replies

If I was going to spool 15lb Invizx, would you recommend using mono backing on a Curado 50e, or just use all Fluoro since it is a smaller spool? Thanks.

X2 on straight spooling with line.  That 50E spool is pretty small!

I didn't notice that much of a difference when I put braid backing on my 50e I guess the spool is already light enough. But it saves Money lol

If braid mainline, yes, I'd back it.

If mono or copoly, no.

If pure Fluoro, perhaps, to save money as aprw1 suggested.

Just spool it up, seaguar says their 15 is more like 12lb dia, the 50 can handle 85 yrds of 12lb dia. So that spool would be perfect filled for use and some left over if you lose some line.

The 50E will hold 70 yds of 14lb mono .015 in in diameter, and that is 210 feet of line.  I have backing on mine and spooled it with XPS Flouro 14lb, which is .013 inches in diameter.  I use 50yds of flouro, but that is 150ft of line and a heck of a lot of line with which to cast.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. Sounds like the majority is to just spool it.

I always straight spool my 51E, doesn't matter which line type I'm spooling it with. I recently spooled mine with some fresh S8S 30# timber brown. These reels were made with very light spools, I don't see the need to add the extra weight of mono or fluoro backing no matter how minimal it may be.

I'm in that camp, too!
