Crank baits are my thing, but I also make a few Musky baits.

The bodies are balsa.  That is except for the lipless cranks.  Those are blanks that you can order from either Stamina or Jann's.

I found that it is easiest to order balsa in long, wide stips that are about 1/16" thick.  I cut them out in pairs and then mate them up during the process.

A few more.

Very nice baits whittler, and some very interesting shapes. Do you find that a cb with an odd shape such as the top right one in the picture help you more or bigger fish? Do you think that the difference in vibrations might cause a reaction strike?

basspro48, thanks for your comments on my baits. I think all crankbaits are reaction baits, just my opinion, you are going to hear match the hatch, natural look and a whole host of other factors why crankbaits shoul be made a certain way. Match the hatch, untill you catch one on pink/purple or red/yellow and think what is in the water that looks like that. A bass does not have to make a scale count or check the eye placement  before the strike, they react much like a cat when something zips in front of it.

The bait in the upper right and the second and third on the left are all made on the same pattern, just fat and flat styles and different lip shapes. Coffin, round or square lips can all be used in shallow or deep configurations. The upper right crank with a lip as long as the bait was an ezperiment that worked out very well, the little bait not only runs deep for its size but it has a vibration pattern much like a Rattle trap.

One great thing about making your own is if you ever wonder how a certain shape will work it easy to find out for yourself.
